02 Mar Are You Listening to Him?
After six days Jesus took Peter, James and John with him and led them up a high mountain, where they were all alone. There he was transfigured before them. His clothes became dazzling white, whiter than anyone in the world could bleach them. And there appeared before them Elijah and Moses, who were talking with Jesus.
Peter said to Jesus, “Rabbi, it is good for us to be here. Let us put up three shelters—one for you, one for Moses and one for Elijah.” (He did not know what to say, they were so frightened.) Then a cloud appeared and covered them, and a voice came from the cloud: “This is my Son, whom I love. Listen to him!” Mark 9: 2-7
Our Heavenly Father reminds us here that we are to give close attention to what Jesus is saying to us. As the text explains: Peter didn’t know for sure what to say in response to this transformation of Jesus, but consistent with Peter’s personality, he managed to come up with something!
But clearly in response, the voice from Heaven was from our Heavenly Father reminding us that Jesus is the Lord of Lords and King of Kings. We need to spend our lives here in listening to and following Jesus. Listening to God in prayer is not as easy as pouring our heart out to Him with all of our requests and concerns. But as we listen to Him, He will be faithful to speak to us words of direction and reassurance of His Goodness to us.
In this new year which has now taken us into the month of March, I am inspired to listen carefully to our Lord Jesus. Listening to Him honestly involves surrender to His will for our lives.
Are you listening to the Lord these days? What is He saying to you? Are there points of obedience and cooperation with His will that you are engaging in that will lead to greater effectiveness and blessing in your life?
Lord Jesus, thank You for being faithful to speak to me this day. Fill me with your Holy Spirit and help me to respond in obedience to your will. I embrace the peace and joy that comes as I stay in step with your Holy Spirit.
