13 Sep Put into Practice what You’ve Heard
30 “As for you, son of man, your countrymen are talking together about you by the walls and at the doors of the houses, saying to each other, ‘Come and hear the message that has come from the LORD.’ 31 My people come to you, as they usually do, and sit before you to listen to your words, but they do not put them into practice. With their mouths they express devotion, but their hearts are greedy for unjust gain. 32 Indeed, to them you are nothing more than one who sings love songs with a beautiful voice and plays an instrument well, for they hear your words but do not put them into practice. Ezekiel 33: 30-32
The people were coming to hear Ezekiel just to be entertained. They listened to the words of the prophet as a message from the Lord, but would not do the things that they were hearing. Many people come to church today and enjoy the gathering for the purpose of friendship and entertainment.
Many people have good intentions, but when it comes down to living out the message of God’s Word, it doesn’t always happen. Do you listen to God’s words and then go and do your own thing? We need to be careful to listen fully to what God is saying to us and then live out what He is instructing us to do. When we obey the Lord and follow Him, there will be great blessing and beneficial order that will come about in our lives. There is the promise of blessing and fruitfulness when we are doers of the word and not just hearers.
These words apply just as much to pastors as to anyone else. It is so important to heed the Word of God and put into practice what we are hearing. On a daily basis I try to spend the first part of my morning in prayer and the Word of God, allowing God to speak to me. It is in those times that He gives me wisdom and direction for each day.
In these days, I know that it is so important to practice what I preach and lead the way in discipling believers in such a way that I will help people follow the Lord wholeheartedly. I need to be careful to practice a disciplined life of prayer, reading the Word of God and obeying what the Lord is calling me to do. Each day there are opportunities to encourage people and help people who are in need. It is so important to raise up more and more people who can help me in caring for people’s needs.
Heavenly Father, I pray that You would give me wisdom this day to carry out the assignments that you’ve given to me. Fill me with your love and your Spirit so that I have the strength to carry out your purposes for me life. Help me to be an example to others as someone who hears the Word of God and puts it into practice in my life.
