22 Mar God Will Reward Your Obedience to Him
“Now then, just as the LORD promised, he has kept me alive for forty-five years since the time he said this to Moses, while Israel moved about in the desert. So here I am today, eighty-five years old! I am still as strong today as the day Moses sent me out; I’m just as vigorous to go out to battle now as I was then. Now give me this hill country that the LORD promised me that day. You yourself heard then that the Anakites were there and their cities were large and fortified, but, the LORD helping me, I will drive them out just as he said.”
Then Joshua blessed Caleb son of Jephunneh and gave him Hebron as his inheritance. So Hebron has belonged to Caleb son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite ever since, because he followed the LORD, the God of Israel, wholeheartedly.
Joshua 14: 10-14
Caleb was one of the original spies that Moses sent into the Promise Land to scout out the land and see the possibilities. The other spies came back with a negative report but Joshua and Caleb both challenged that report and spoke boldly that God would deliver them and help them to overcome their enemies and take the Promise Land.
Now Caleb is 85 years old and he is still taking the Promise Land that God had promised. God rewarded Caleb for his faithful obedience as you see several times in this passage that it says that Caleb followed the Lord fully or wholeheartedly. Here’s a man who has a sense of purpose and assignment all the days of his life. We too can be people who can never tire of doing what God is calling us to do. Even if we are in ‘retirement’ there are still victories to be won and people to win to Christ and disciple. Our work is never done here until God calls us home.
I am touched by Caleb’s tenacious spirit to claim all that God has for him. I am inspired to make the most of my days as I realize that there are so many people who still need to come to Christ and be discipled into fully mature and devoted disciples of Jesus Christ. I want to be like Caleb who followed the Lord wholeheartedly all the days of his life.
Today’s Promise Land is found in discovering our purpose before God to fulfill His plans in our lives. I know God has called me to pastor His people and mobilize many leaders to continue the work of the Lord in so many ways. I want to have the strength and courage of Caleb to do the things God’s calling me to do to raise up leaders to reach the great harvest of souls still to be reached. The Promise Land is not just making it to heaven; true success and fulfillment is bringing as many people as possible with us to heaven.
Lord Jesus, thank You for giving me renewed vision to carry out your plans for my life. Help me to be bold and courageous as I inspire others to follow your lead and become leaders who will release many others to fulfill your purposes for their lives. Fill me with your Spirit and help me to make the most of my time here as I seek to serve You and see many people come to know You and become fully devoted disciples.
