16 Nov Live for the Right Rewards
For we live by faith, not by sight. We are confident, I say, and would prefer to be away from the body and at home with the Lord. So we make it our goal to please him, whether we are at home in the body or away from it. For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each of us may receive what is due us for the things done while in the body, whether good or bad. 2 Cor. 5: 7-10
To live by faith instead of by sight means to live life on the basis of what we know God wants us to do instead of living for the moment. That’s what delayed gratification is all about. We live in an instant gratification culture, and here the Apostle Paul challenges us to live for eternity.
There is a day coming that Paul describes here as the Day where we will all stand before Christ and give an account for how we have lived our lives. There is clearly a reward system in heaven and this scripture reference bears this out. That is not to say that we work our way to heaven. We are saved by grace as we put our faith and hope in Jesus Christ. There isn’t anything we can do to merit our way to heaven. None of us will ever be good enough to enter heaven. That’s why Jesus died on the cross for our sin. But now in response to His love for us, we have the privilege to lay our lives down for Him and for others. When we do that, we know that there will be many heavenly rewards for our efforts to live for Him.
I am touched with the mission and assignment that Jesus has given me to pastor His people and lead many to a relationship with Jesus Christ. The Lord reminds me today that there’s a day coming when I will stand before Him and give an account for how I have lived my life.
I am inspired by this to live my life on the edge and take risks for God. I am moved to discern those times when He would have me pray for loved ones, neighbors, and people in our community that still need to know Him. I am moved to look for ways to touch people in our community with the Love of God. I am reminded of how important it is to continue to feed the people of God His eternal and transforming Word. I want to stand before Him with a clear conscience that is confident that I did to the best of my ability what God wanted me to do on this earth.
Thank you Heavenly Father for reminding me of the Day that I need to live for. Help me to communicate the perspective of heaven to the people I pastor. Give me opportunities to lead people into a relationship with Jesus. Come Lord Jesus and fill me with your love. Pour out your Spirit upon me that I may fulfill your calling and assignment for my life. I give you this day as I choose to live by faith, not by sight.
