08 Nov God Will Test Your Work at the End of Time
10 By the grace God has given me, I laid a foundation as a wise builder, and someone else is building on it. But each one should build with care. 11 For no one can lay any foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ. 12 If anyone builds on this foundation using gold, silver, costly stones, wood, hay or straw, 13 their work will be shown for what it is, because the Day will bring it to light. It will be revealed with fire, and the fire will test the quality of each person’s work. 14 If what has been built survives, the builder will receive a reward. 15 If it is burned up, the builder will suffer loss but yet will be saved—even though only as one escaping through the flames. 1 Corinthians 3: 10-15
These are sobering words that remind us that there is a Day of accounting that is coming for every one of us. It all comes down to how we have served the Lord Jesus and responded to what He has called us to do every day. God has made it clear to us that there are rewards in heaven for us as we honor Him and live for Him. He has wired everyone of us with a need for accomplishment and achievement. Though we are saved by grace through faith in Jesus, He blesses us with very important assignments to lead others into relationship with Him.
Our lives will be measured not just on how we have lived for Jesus, and how we have walked in obedience and integrity, but we will also be judged on why we did what we did in our lives. Our motives go a long way toward showing the condition of our hearts. It is really important to come to Jesus every day and allow Him to tenderize our hearts and empower us with His Spirit so that we will serve with a compassion and an integrity that leads to humility, purity and sincerity.
I read these words at my Dad’s Memorial Service a year ago. I am touched this morning with how time flies and how the cycle of life continues with the knowledge that this life is short. Now that I am a Grandpa, and as I held my grandaughter, Elizabeth, last week, just a couple hours after she was born, I was touched with the awesome responsibility that we as parents have to raise our children and help them in Godly guidance all of our days. I prayed for Elizabeth’s future — that she would know the Lord and be a blessing to many!
I am reminded of how important every day is in how I serve my Lord and seek to honor Him with my thoughts, my motives, my words and my actions. Jesus is reminding me of HIs words to the disciples hours before He died on the cross: “Abide in me…. Apart from me you can do nothing.”
It is His will and design that we be fruitful as we abide in Him and do His will. We will be fruitful as we serve people in our lives and lead others into a life of discipleship and wholehearted devotion to Jesus.
Thank You Heavenly Father for your great love for me. Lord Jesus I surrender to You and to the leading of your Holy Spirit in my life. I set my heart to walk in obedience before You and to serve your people in the most honorable and faithful way to your Word and your will. Purify my heart and help me to be a true blessing to those you’ve called me to lead and pastor.
