02 Nov Believing Prayer Activates the Power of God
“Have faith in God,” Jesus answered. “Truly I tell you, if anyone says to this mountain, ‘Go, throw yourself into the sea,’ and does not doubt in their heart but believes that what they say will happen, it will be done for them. Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours. And when you stand praying, if you hold anything against anyone, forgive them, so that your Father in heaven may forgive you your sins.” Mark 11: 22-25
Jesus encourages us to have faith in God. This kind of faith is expressed through a quality in faithful prayer that has to do with simple but total trust in God. There’s the message here that God will answer our prayers when we come to Him sincerely and believe in Him and His faithfulness to answer our prayers. We may not always have prayers answered in the way we want them, but we need to trust God regardless of the results.
We can trust that God will answer our prayers, but not as a result of just our positive mental attitude. We must be a genuine believer who has surrendered to the Lordship of Jesus Christ. We must also pray with pure motives and not for personal gain. Our prayers must be for the extending of God’s Kingdom and for the good of others. At the end of this passage Jesus says to forgive those who you would hold a grudge against, so that the Father will forgive your sins. There is the call to forgive others if we are holding an offense of any kind. Freedom and great growth happens as we step away from bitterness and unforgiveness.
Last night, my daughter, Holly, gave birth to Elizabeth Lorraine, and we are so thankful to God for this grandchild. Congratulations to Chris and Holly Rickett! And as I was driving home from the hospital I found myself praying for Elizabeth the same way I have prayed for Danny, Holly and Rachel all of these years. God answers prayer!
I am inspired by the words of Jesus to be a leader who prays with effectiveness and great faith. Faith is cooperating with God at the deepest levels of my heart. I know that from this scripture there is a call to believe with confidence, and yet that confidence comes from a life that is totally surrendered to Jesus as Lord and freed from past bitterness and unforgiveness. It is with a pure heart of integrity and great faith that God will answer the prayers of His children.
Heavenly Father, thank You for challenging me today to believe for great things in your Kingdom. Thank you for the gift of a grandchild! I set my heart to live for You and to contend in prayer for great works to be done in and through your people. Lord Jesus fill me with your Holy Spirit and empower me to hear your voice and serve the people in my life this day. Help me to believe with great faith and confidence that You hear my prayers and that my labor in the Lord is not in vain.
