13 Jul Draw Near to God in Sincerity
Let us draw near to God with a sincere heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled to cleanse us from a guilty conscience and having our bodies washed with pure water. 23Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful. 24And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds. 25Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching. Hebrews 10: 22-25
To draw near to God in sincerity means to come to Him with an open and humble heart knowing that He is quick to forgive us of our sins and to give us a new start. He is faithful to deliver on His promise to not just forgive us, but to transform us into His likeness so that people will see Jesus in us.
Then the writer to the Hebrews follows this with the call for all of us to demonstrate our sincerity by being creative in how we can motivate one another to a life of love, good deeds and service to the people in our community. What follows naturally on the heels of this statement is a strong challenge to not give up on meeting together as believers who will encourage one another in the faith in the setting of the local church so that we will be equipped and prepared for God’s coming. The Day approaching is a reference to the fact the life is so very short and we need to make the most of every opportunity to serve God, by serving and loving the people in our lives.
I am inspired by these words that call for true sincerity of heart in coming near to God and offering our whole lives to Him. Sincerity of heart speaks to the serious call to bring our whole lives and every issue that we deal with honestly to the Lord. There is nothing that escapes God’s attention. So I need to be honest with myself and honest with God in allowing Him to refine me, correct me and direct me in the ways that He would call me to live.
I am so touched these days with the importance of helping create support systems in the lives of believers because of how difficult life can be for all of us. That also means that we should offer ourselves in support to those who have not yet made the decision to follow Jesus in their lives. We truly need one another. That is why it is so important to build lasting and trusting relationships that will help us in living out our faith in God and allowing Jesus to have influence on our every decision. Life is short and I want to help as many people as possible to fully realize the promises of God that are available to them every day.
Dear Lord Jesus, help me this day to be a blessing to the people You bring into my life. I draw near to You in these moments, trusting in your grace, your favor and your great wisdom. I choose to follow You this day and ask that You would give me the grace to speak words of encouragement and direction to people who need to hear your voice. Fill me with your Holy Spirit and help me to stay in step with your Spirit this day. I set my heart to be an encourager and helper of people today.
