Give of Yourself with a Willing and Glad Heart

Give of Yourself with a Willing and Glad Heart

Scripture —
Then the Lord spoke to Moses, saying: “Speak to the children of Israel, that they bring Me an offering. From everyone who gives it willingly with his heart you shall take My offering.” Exodus 25:1-2

Observation

These were offerings that were material goods to be used in the building of a tabernacle for the Lord. This included gold, silver, bronze and precious gems. What is interesting about God’s directive is that He desires the kind of offering that comes ‘willingly from the heart.’

God was communicating something about the importance of the condition of one’s heart when they give. This teaches me that God is just as concerned, if not more concerned, with the intentions of the heart, as He is with the gift that is given.

Application

As I read this scripture, I was touched not so much with the importance of giving of my resources with a willing and grateful heart, though that is very important. But I was touched with a loving invitation from the Lord that in everything I do, in living for Him, it can be done with a joyful and willing heart.

I am struck with the realization that that’s the only decent way to live. God is just as concerned with the condition and motivations of my heart as He is with what I do with my words, thoughts and actions. Are there people in your life that you need to serve willingly and gladly with a humble and sweet heart? As we come to Jesus and allow Him to fill us with His Holy Spirit, then our serving will be less a chore, and more like a privilege. Let God touch your heart today and serve Him gladly.

Prayer

Thank you, Father for reminding me that life can be lived with great joy and gladness. I set my heart to live for You wholeheartedly and gladly. I willingly offer my life in service to You and desire to honor You in all things. Lord Jesus, thank You for the joy of your presence and how your Holy Spirit is faithful to reveal your will to me. Fill me with your Spirit this day so that I may serve you gladly and willingly.
