25 Jan Receive His Power, Embrace His Call to Serve
But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” Acts 1: 8
Jesus promises the disciples the power of the Holy Spirit that would enable them to birth His Church and become a strong witness for Him to thousands of people. What is true for the disciples in this passage is also true for anyone today who puts their faith and trust in God.
We can be filled with God’s Spirit each day and empowered to live a life that brings glory and a living witness to the presence of Jesus in our lives. The most important message in the history of mankind is Jesus dying on the cross in order to make available to all a relationship with God. God so loved the world that He gave His only Son that whoever believes on Him shall not perish, but have eternal life. To get this Word out with love and authenticity, we need to be filled with God’s Spirit and walk with His direction and guidance each day.
This is a discipline that I enter into each day as I ask God to fill me with His Holy Spirit. Jesus is faithful to fill me with His Spirit every day as I spend time in His presence, through prayer, praise and worship, and time in His Word. There is a reservoir of His love that we can tap into each day, and I need to keep being filled with His Spirit so that I have His power, His direction and His wisdom.
This daily discipline also requires a constant humility on my part to go His way instead of living for myself and what I want to do. Every day we all have selfish leanings and temptations to go our own way and do what we want to do. But if we’ll humble ourselves before God, He will empower us with His Spirit to obey Him and honor Him each day. Staying in step with His Holy Spirit takes discipline, character, integrity and a lot of hard work. But it is worth it when I see His Spirit working through my life to touch others with His grace and love.
Come Lord Jesus and fill me with your Holy Spirit. I need the power of your Spirit today to be able to walk with You, to hear your voice and to pastor the people you have entrusted to my care. Help me to stay dependent on your Holy Spirit. Thank You for blessing this day and helping me to walk in the power of your Holy Spirit.
