24 Jan Be Empowered by His Spirit
Then he opened their minds so they could understand the Scriptures. He told them, “This is what is written: The Christ will suffer and rise from the dead on the third day, and repentance and forgiveness of sins will be preached in his name to all nations, beginning at Jerusalem. You are witnesses of these things. I am going to send you what my Father has promised; but stay in the city until you have been clothed with power from on high.” Luke 24:45-49
Jesus was faithful to open their minds as he explained the scriptures to the disciples. The explanation of His death and resurrection included the call for His disciples to preach the message of repentance and forgiveness of sins in His name. But it also included the promise of power they would be clothed with as they wait for this promise in Jerusalem.
What is true for the disciples is true for you and me. We have the glorious privilege of offering the gift of repentance and forgiveness of sins to the people in our lives. This gift can be lived out in our lives as we walk in the light and have a lifestyle of repentance. The light of forgiveness that we extend to others can exemplify the heart of Jesus. As we are empowered with God’s Spirit, He helps us to be more loving, caring and sensitive to the needs of others, and He gives us boldness to share with others about Jesus.
I am drawn to that place of seeking Him to be clothed with power from on high. That is a gift that He’s made available to me each day as I wait in His presence. I need to take time in His presence each day to be filled with the Holy Spirit so that I can be empowered to speak for Him and be a messenger of reconciliation.
Life can get so busy, but I still need to take time each morning to be in His presence and receive His power. He empowers us to obey Him, to resist temptation, to serve Him and to lay our lives down for others.
Thank You, Father for the promise of your power. Help me to take the time each morning to be filled with your Spirit and empowered to live for You and speak for You. I set my heart to walk in your anointing as I walk in obedience before You. Lord Jesus, help me to hear your voice and obey so that I will not lose any of the power you have ordained for me to walk in.
