28 Apr Have a Heart that’s Near to God
“‘These people honor me with their lips,
but their hearts are far from me.
They worship me in vain;
their teachings are merely human rules.
Matthew 15: 8-9
Just like in the days of Jesus, there are many present day Pharisees and Religious people who go through the motions of devotion to God by church-going and even doing acts of service without really having a heart that is pliable, teachable and near to God’s heart.
The heart that God will honor is a heart that is humble, and sensitive to hearing God’s voice and ready to obey. To be near to the heart of God means a 24/7 devotion to His Presence that enjoys fellowship with Him.
There’s a simple call here to embrace the presence of Jesus in everything I do. He is the giver of life and the Prince of Peace. I can embrace His peace and be mindful of His presence in such a way that empowers me to make the most of my time and be more of a blessing to the people in my life.
There’s a weariness that can overtake me if I am not taking the time to embrace my Lord and be in His Presence. In His presence is fullness of joy; in His presence there is peace and divine direction for each day.
Thank You, Lord Jesus for the promise of your Presence. I set my heart to be near to you this day. Fill me with your Holy Spirit and help me to honor you with my words, my thoughts, attitudes and my actions.
