28 Mar The Depth of God’s Love in Us
Scripture — Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. 1 Corinthians 13: 4-7
This great love chapter shows us the practical implications of a people who will love with God’s love. If we are to live as people who show God’s love, we will show patience and kindness to the people around us. Instead of being proud and selfish, God’s love moves us to be humble and seek the good of others before ourselves.
The qualities of love show up in us as we resist anger and demonstrate forgiveness and patience. If we are to love with God’s love, we will always protect, we will always believe in God’s goodness and believe the best in people. God’s love will inspire us to always be full of hope and ever persevering. Every day there are opportunities that God brings into our lives to love people and to serve them in practical ways. As we let God’s love prevail in our lives, we will be shining examples of the very presence of Jesus in every situation.
This challenging call to love people is a life long process of allowing our Lord Jesus to enlarge our hearts and stretch us beyond our comfort zones to truly love with His Love. He has made available to me (and to all of us) His presence by the power of His Holy Spirit. As I respond to His Presence in my Life, this will move me to be compassionate and caring for the people who God brings into my life each day.
As I surrender to the direction of His Holy Spirit each day, I am empowered to live a life of love that communicates the heart of God to those who need Him. These words that define love inspire me to allow God to touch me each day with His love, so that my life will be defined by His Presence and His Power in my life. Who are the people that God wants to love through your life today? What are some practical things you can do for them to show God’s great love?
Dear Heavenly Father, I surrender to your love this day. Lord Jesus help me to show your love in practical ways as I go through this day. Fill me with Your Holy Spirit and empower me to do what I can’t do on my own. Let your wisdom and patience be in my life today and every day. I empty myself of my own designs and set my heart to go your way. Help me to be a blessing to people this day as I seek to show your love.
