03 Dec Hope that Doesn’t Disappoint
May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit. Romans 15:13
Paul encourages the people to let the God of all hope fill them with all joy and peace. But that can only happen if they put their trust in Him. That’s why he says: ‘as you trust in Him.’
There are so many things that people put their hope in these days instead of God. They trust in their money, they trust in their possessions, they put their trust in people, and often they get disappointed because none of those things will bring lasting joy or peace. Sometimes people have to go through disappointments before they come to God. Sometimes people have broken hearts and broken dreams because they tried to pursue the best of life without a relationship with God.
He is actually saying that as you trust in God and let Him fill you with all joy and peace, the promise is that you will overflow with a supernatural hope by the power of the Holy Spirit. This joy and peace is based on hearing God speak to us about promises He has for us in the future, and in eternity. We can hope in Him and know that He is faithful to bring about what He has promised. There’s a supernatural peace and joy that comes when I trust in Him and know that I am pleasing Him with my heart that seeks to honor Him and obey Him.
As I was reading these words, I was reminded that every day there is an opportunity to take the time to listen to His voice and allow God to speak to me about how I can bless the people in my life. If we’ll take the time to quiet our hearts and listen for His voice, He will be faithful to speak and lead me in the ways that I can serve people and His purposes.
The Holy Spirit reminded me of heaven’s perspective in that He gives us all a bright future as we trust in Him and seek to serve Him and the people in our lives. He filled my heart with hope and that motivates me to live for Him wholeheartedly. I want to be a person who communicates hope and optimism based on the goodness and faithfulness of God.
Lord Jesus, I pray that you would fill me with hope today and every day as I put my trust in you. Thank you for the power of the Holy Spirit that quickens to my heart heaven’s perspective and the fact that you are a big God who is faithful to accomplish your purposes in and through me. I choose to communicate your hope to a world that’s often discouraged and depressed. Help me to be an instrument of healing and encouragement to your people.
