16 Jul The Benefits of Being Filled with God’s Spirit
“And afterward, I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your old men will dream dreams, your young men will see visions.” Joel 2: 28
This prophetic statement from Joel speaks of the day of Pentecost and also the last days that we are now living in. It is a promise that we have seen fulfilled in the Pentecostal movement over the past 115 years. This prophecy is available to anyone who is open to the outpouring of the Holy Spirit as seen on the day of Pentecost.
The Spirit-filled life has the promise of living and speaking prophetically in the sense that we can speak on behalf of God and communicate His heart and words to a culture that desperately needs Him. The Holy Spirit will inspire us to dream big dreams that are consistent with the heartbeat of God. He is faithful to give us fresh vision of what God wants to do in us and through us as we humbly submit to His will and are filled with His Holy Spirit each day.
I am inspired by Joel’s words to be a man who is constantly being filled with the Spirit of God so that I can be used by Him to speak His words at just the right moment. Speaking prophetically simply means I’m speaking what God wants to say. In that sense, I know God is calling me to preach and teach with a prophetic stream of His Spirit and to live prophetically. A prophetic lifestyle has the power to point people to Jesus because of how we live. I want my life to be prophetic in that way.
I am challenged to dream big dreams because we serve a big God. I do not want to limit what God wants to do through me because of smallness of heart or distracted energy on meaningless pursuits. I want to be a man of fresh vision that will come as I keep being filled with God’s Spirit and take a posture of seeking His will in all things.
Thank you, Father God for the promise of the outpouring of your Holy Spirit. Come Lord Jesus and fill me with your love and Spirit. Help me to speak and live prophetically so that people will hear from you. I know you have great plans and dreams for my life and ministry. Help me to cooperate with you so that I realize all that you have for me. Help me to purge from my life anything that would detract from the Holy Spirit working in my life.
