09 Mar Choose Blessings
See, I am setting before you today a blessing and a curse— the blessing if you obey the commands of the Lord your God that I am giving you today; the curse if you disobey the commands of the Lord your God and turn from the way that I command you today by following other gods, which you have not known. Deuteronomy 11: 26-28
Moses is setting before the children of Israel the choice between God’s blessing, or the consequences of going their own way and living for themselves. These were days of preparation for when they were to enter into the Promised Land.
The same choice is up to us every day: Will we follow the Lord God fully? Or will we go our own way? God is our Creator who knows what’s best for us. As we follow Him and honor Him with our choices, by loving God wholeheartedly and loving the people He’s placed in our lives, then there will be great blessing in our lives. Blessings come from hard work, from doing the right thing, from a life of honesty and a life of healthy relationships. Our obedience to the Lord will cause us to make humble choices to serve others and develop nurturing and healthy relationships with the most important people in our lives.
If we don’t follow the living God wholeheartedly, by default, we will go our own way and the things of this life can easily become false gods. Being a pastor challenges me each day to serve God and serve His people.
I really do need to practice what I preach, and that needs to be exemplified by how I care for people and how I show God’s love. A life of prayer and obedience sets the stage for us to be blessed in every way. To follow the Lord closely, I need to keep listening to His voice and spending time with Him. Are you living for God these days? Blessings will come as you choose to follow Him each day.
Heavenly Father, thank You for loving me enough to remind me of the importance of serving you wholeheartedly. Thank you for the many blessings in life that have come my way as I have served You. Come Lord Jesus and fill me with the power of your Holy Spirit this day. Empower me to live for you and serve the people you have entrusted to me. Give me wisdom as to how I can share with others about the Good News of the Gospel and the way to eternal life.
